Every now and then I get to do something a little bit different. This time we were tasked to create a video promoting OpticsPlanet's Santa Stakeout Kit, which that includes all the essential items you need to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus. For just $6,499.00 you get a kit of a ton of gear ranging from a snow ghillie suit, thermoses, range finders, heat detection, trail cameras, pretty much anything you can think of.

Such a fun kit would need an equally fun video. So the other video producer and myself came up with a story of two guys using the various equipment to try and find Santa. I stopped by our Product Intelligence department to a colleague that's former Army to get the proper terminology, and we were good to go.

The largest hindrance we had, aside from time constraints, were that none of the usual talent was available to film. Plus, we couldn't use our product specialists in such a silly video, so that left it to me and the other video producer to star in the video as well.

Check out the video below, and remember that when one guy is on screen, the other is behind the camera operating and directing! I also lent my voice to do the VO while the other producer did the motion graphics for the 2nd half of the video.

It was a fun video and I feel that the live action portions came out really well! Also, it was successful in being viral in our efforts to create quality links to the sight. Click the links to see the articles that we were featured on Gizmodo, CNET, Fox News, even one on Jezebel although I don't know if they fully understood the silliness of the kit.....

Much like the Z.E.R.O. Zombie Kit that I wrote about in a previous blog, I always take pride when other media sources get exactly what we're going for. This time it was HuffPost Video that came through in this video response.

A few sites that were covering multiple Santa Stakeout related products started using the pic in the banner of this post as their thumbnails. Guess I just ooze that child delight that they're all looking for, hahaha.
